Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation Farm staff had been making small, ad hoc donations of produce from Luscher’s Community and Demonstration Gardens to food assistance partners in Lake Oswego—Hunger Fighter Oregon and LO Meals On Wheels. But in 2023, Friends of Luscher Farm (FOLF) created its Harvest Helpers program to increase donations for greater benefit. Since then, FOLF Harvest Helper volunteers harvest the Gardens and make regular weekly deliveries throughout the growing season. In 2023, Harvest Helpers harvested and delivered more than 1,500 lbs of Luscher fruits & veggies—almost doubling the 800 lbs donated in 2022. And in 2024—thanks to the generous participation of Community Gardeners who donated excess from their plots—donations doubled again—to 3,255 lbs!
